Transform Food Waste: Natural Textile Dyeing with Food Scraps Workshop

Learn to reduce and transform your food waste! Join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Transform Food Waste: Natural Textile Dyeing with Food Scraps Workshop at the Encinitas Community Center on Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m. During this workshop, we’ll cover:

· How to reduce food waste in the kitchen
· Why it’s so important to keep food waste out of landfills through composting and the organic waste recycling program
· Tips and tricks on how to use the curbside green bin

Attendees can participate in the natural textile dyeing activity facilitated by Sound as Color – get creative and upcycle food scraps into art on natural fiber clothing! Please bring a white 100% natural fiber textile to dye – see FAQ section on the registration page for more details.

We’ll also have the Sprouting Station open for attendees to plant native plant and vegetable seeds to take home and grow!

Save Your Scraps: Vermicomposting Workshop

Learn to reduce your food waste and compost at home! Join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Save Your Scraps: Vermicomposting Workshop at the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens on Saturday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. During this workshop, we’ll cover:

· How to reduce food waste in the kitchen

· Why it’s so important to keep food waste out of landfills through composting and the organic waste recycling program

· Tips and tricks on how to use the curbside green bin

Attendees can make and take home a vermicomposting bin (worm composting) during the workshop – all supplies and information will be provided to start easily composting at home! Please note that supplies are limited to one bin per household, with priority given to residents of the City of Vista.

We’ll also have the Sprouting Station open for attendees to plant fruit and vegetable seeds to take home and grow – use the finished compost from your vermicomposting bin to fertilize!

Green Bins, Gardens & Gleaning: Environmental Lecture + Networking Series

I Love A Clean San Diego and the City of Encinitas present the 2nd event in our new Environmental Lecture + Networking Series: Green Bins, Gardens & Gleaning! Join us for a night of connection and education about reducing food waste and diverting it from the landfill.

Join us at Fox Point Farms in Encinitas on May 6th, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM to learn from a panel of regional sustainability experts including ProduceGood, Healthy Day Partners and EDCO. We’ll start the night off networking and making new connections, then transition into the panel Q&A session.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase onsite in the market and Haven restaurant. Stick around after the event for live music at Haven!
