Watershed Warriors: Valley Center Community Cleanup

Join ILACSD, County of San Diego, and the Valley Center Parks and Recreation District for a litter cleanup on Saturday, March 30th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Valley Center. Volunteers will meet at the Valley Center Park and Baseball Diamonds located at 28246 Lilac Road, Valley Center, CA 92082 and pick up trash and debris from the surrounding area to divert waste from the San Luis Rey watershed and preserve the natural beauty of the community!

ILACSD will bring all the cleanup supplies and explain the impact of this cleanup on our watershed. We also provide community service hours and Letters of Appreciation for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment!

Green Routines Workshop

Green Routines Workshop

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Encinitas to bring you the first of a three-part series focusing on how to incorporate zero waste routines into your lifestyle! On Saturday, February 2, 2019, we will be hosting the Green Routines in the Home Workshop from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the EUSD Farm Lab located at 441 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. The workshop is complimentary and open to the public!

Come by and learn how to set up your house for zero waste success! Visit educational booths addressing topics such as zero waste bathroom tips, sustainable laundry methods, zero waste common areas, and DIY cleaning! Join us for this fun, informative workshop and participate in one of the hands-on activities including a ‘make and take’ project and an eco-friendly kids’ craft.

Participants can exchange or donate those items giving them a second life and keeping them out of the landfill. Some example items that have been brought to past workshops include clothes, nail polish, stereos, pet supplies, books, CD’s, picture frames, kitchenware, Halloween costumes, etc.

Clean Cities Initiative: Imperial Beach Cleanup

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by giving back to your community! Join ILACSD, SDG&E, and the Imperial Beach City Council for our Clean Cities Initiative Cleanup on Monday, January 21st from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Volunteers will meet at Rose Teeple Memorial Park located at the intersection of Calla Avenue & Florida Street. We will pick up litter and debris from around the area to preserve and enhance the local community! With the help of over 300 volunteers last year, we removed more than 500 pounds of trash and recyclables from the local environment! Help us increase our impact by volunteering and bringing a friend!

Watershed Warriors: De Luz Community Cleanup

Join ILACSD, the Fallbrook Trails Council, and the County of San Diego for a De Luz litter cleanup on Saturday, January 26th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Volunteers will meet at the Santa Margarita River Hiking Trail located at 37385 De Luz Road, Fallbrook, CA 92028 (please note map location: we will meet at the northern trailhead, not the Preserve). We will pick up trash from around the Santa Margarita River Hiking Trail to divert waste from the local watershed and preserve the area’s natural beauty!

Please consider using the coordinates (33.413298, -117.241288) to help locate the meeting spot on your maps/GPS, as the same address pulls up both the southern Preserve and the northern Hiking Trail – we are meeting at the Hiking Trail further up the road!

Julian Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection Event

San Diego County’s Department of Environmental Health, with funding from a CalRecycle grant, is holding a FREE household hazardous waste and electronic waste collection event at Julian Library parking lot located at 1850 Highway 78, Julian, CA 92036 on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This event is open to all residents living in unincorporated parts of the county.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE is unused or leftover portions of products containing toxic chemicals used to maintain your residence. Products labeled Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Toxic, Flammable or Corrosive are considered hazardous.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE INCLUDES:

  • AUTO BATTERIES
  • AUTO FLUIDS
  • DISINFECTANTS

Transportation Requirements: 

Leave products in the existing container, if possible. Make sure lids are on tight so containers will not leak. Transport containers in the trunk or in the back of the vehicle away from passengers and pets. Do not transport over 15 gallons or 125 pounds at one time. Containers used for transport must be no larger than a 5-gallon bucket. Please tape ends of household batteries.

PLEASE NOTE: Five (5) televisions or computer monitors (CRT) per car will be accepted, in addition to household hazardous, electronic and universal waste.  

Home-generated “sharps” including syringes and lancets will be collected during this event. Please transport in closed rigid containers.
