Save Your Scraps Workshop

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Chula Vista to bring you a Zero Waste Workshop focused on organics! On Saturday, January 26, 2019, we will be hosting the Save Your Scraps Workshop from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Montevalle Community Center located at 840 Duncan Ranch Road, Chula Vista, CA 91914. The workshop is complimentary and open to the public!

Come by and learn how to keep organics out of the landfill by shopping smart, storing food properly, and composting your scraps. We will also cover water conservation topics, such as ocean-friendly gardens and laundry-to-landscape systems. Join us for this fun, informative workshop and participate in one of the hands-on activities including a ‘make and take’ project and an eco-friendly kids’ craft.

In addition, attendees can bring in gently used items you were planning to donate and participate in the Swap ‘n’ Shop! Participants can exchange or donate those items giving them a second life and keeping them out of the landfill. Some example items that have been brought to past workshops include clothes, nail polish, stereos, pet supplies, books, CD’s, picture frames, kitchenware, Halloween costumes, etc.

Watershed Warriors: Spring Valley Community Cleanup

Join ILACSD as we team up with the County of San Diego for a litter cleanup on Saturday, May 11th from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the Spring Valley County Park located at 8735 Jamacha Blvd, Spring Valley, CA 91977. We will pick up trash around the area to divert waste from the Sweetwater watershed and preserve the area’s natural beauty!

ILACSD will bring all the cleanup supplies and explain the impact of this cleanup on our watershed. We also provide community service hours and Letters of Appreciation for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment!

We encourage volunteers to bring their own reusable items such as water bottles, work gloves, and buckets to promote zero waste practices and help us in our mission to have a zero waste, litter free and environmentally engaged San Diego region!

All volunteers are required to fill out a waiver form to participate and anyone under the age of 18 needs a waiver signed by their parent or guardian.

Break Out Your Take Out Container Day

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Chula Vista to bring you Break Out Your Take Out Container Day on Saturday, November 17th from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM! We are excited to help spread the word about zero waste practices and make it easy for residents to implement these practices into their lives by providing FREE reusable take out containers! At three locations along Third Avenue, ILACSD will be talking with community members about sustainability and building zero waste habits. Communities member will then be able to put that information into action by using the FREE reusable take out containers that will be handed out. Stroll along 3rd Avenue, enjoy a bite to eat, and take home your leftovers in a container that won’t end up in a landfill! 

Stop by the ILACSD booth and grab your reusable container at one of the following locations:

Seaside Sustainability: Ditching Disposables

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Carlsbad once again to bring you Seaside Sustainability: Ditching Disposables on Wednesday, November 28th from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the State Street Farmers Market in Carlsbad Village located on State Street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue! We are excited to help spread the word about sustainable practices and make it easier for residents to implement these actions in their everyday lives.

 

ILACSD will be talking with community members about minimizing their consumption of single-use plastics, reducing food waste, and building sustainable habits. Stop by our booth to pick up a FREE set of bamboo utensils or a stainless steel straw! Put your knowledge into action by utilizing your new reusable utensils while enjoying a bite to eat from one of the Farmers Market vendors!

Encanto Community Cleanup

Join I Love A Clean San Diego as we kickoff the Adopt-A-Park program at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center on Saturday, November 3rd, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Volunteers will meet at 6401 Skyline Drive, San Diego, CA, 92114 to participate in a litter pickup to prevent waste from entering our waterways before they make it to the ocean. We have partnered with Lowe’s and Keep America Beautiful to host this cleanup, so there will also be beautification projects at the Recreation Center – come ready to spruce up the area!

We will have cleanup supplies, snacks, and water. We also provide community service hours and Letters of Appreciation for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment!

Oktoberfest Cleanup

Break out your lederhosen and dirndls and join ILACSD and Think Blue for the Oktoberfest Community Cleanup on Saturday, October 27th from 10 am – 12 pm. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Benchmark Brewing Company located at 6190 Fairmount Avenue, San Diego, CA 92120! Let’s cheers to a clean San Diego River following the neighborhood litter pickup with discounted beers from Benchmark Brewing and Groundswell Brewing Company!

We will have cleanup supplies, snacks, and water. We also provide community service hours and Letters of Appreciation for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment!

Jacumba Tire Collection

CalRecycle and the County of San Diego Department of Public Works are hosting a FREE Tire Collection Event. Bring passenger vehicle tires to properly dispose of at this collection day! This free service for all residents living in unincorporated parts of the county will be offered from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Jacumba Library Parking Lot located at 44605 Old Hwy 80, Jacumba Hot Springs, CA 91934.

Tire Requirements:

  • Passenger vehicle tires only.
  • No tires from businesses.
  • Tires must be reasonably clean of dirt.
  • Only 9 tires per vehicle.
  • A limited number of tires with rims will be accepted.
  • Call 1-877-713-2784 to request pre-approval for tires with rims and loads of more than 9 tires.
