Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Encinitas to bring you the last installment of a three-part series focusing on how to put your passion into action and share the simplicity of sustainability with your community! On Saturday, May 4, 2019, we will be hosting the Adventures in Sustainability Workshop from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the EUSD Farm Lab located at 441 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. The workshop is complimentary and open to the public!

Come by and learn how to fold sustainability practices into everyday hobbies, chores, and even social occasions! Visit educational booths addressing topics such as hosting a party, giving gifts, traveling in confidence, and caring for your pet in a more environmentally conscious way! Join us for this fun, informative workshop and participate in one of the hands-on activities including a ‘make and take’ project and an eco-friendly kids’ craft.

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Encinitas to bring you the second of a three-part series focusing on conservation in your kitchen! On Saturday, March 2, 2019, we will be hosting the Save Your Scraps Workshop from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the EUSD Farm Lab located at 441 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. The workshop is complimentary and open to the public!

Come by and learn how to set up your house for zero waste success! Visit educational booths addressing topics such as keep organics out of the landfill by shopping smart, storing food properly, and composting your scraps! Join us for this fun, informative workshop and participate in one of the hands-on activities including a ‘make and take’ project and an eco-friendly kids’ craft.

In addition, attendees can bring in gently used items you were planning to donate and participate in the Swap ‘n’ Shop! Participants can exchange or donate those items giving them a second life and keeping them out of the landfill. Some example items that have been brought to past workshops include clothes, nail polish, stereos, pet supplies, books, CD’s, picture frames, kitchenware, Halloween costumes, etc.

At the end of the workshop, 25 participants will be able to create and take home a fully-functioning vermicomposting bin. Please indicate your interest on the registration page. Participants will be added on a first come, first serve basis. Due to supply restrictions, we are limited to 25 participants. Please limit one per household.

Julian Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection Event

San Diego County’s Department of Environmental Health, with funding from a CalRecycle grant, is holding a FREE household hazardous waste and electronic waste collection event at Julian Library parking lot located at 1850 Highway 78, Julian, CA 92036 on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This event is open to all residents living in unincorporated parts of the county.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE is unused or leftover portions of products containing toxic chemicals used to maintain your residence. Products labeled Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Toxic, Flammable or Corrosive are considered hazardous.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE INCLUDES:

  • AEROSOLS
  • ALL PURPOSE CLEANERS
  • ANTIFREEZE
  • AUTO BATTERIES
  • AUTO FLUIDS
  • DISINFECTANTS
  • GASOLINE (w/container)
  • LIGHTER FLUID
  • USED OIL/OIL FILTERS
  • LATEX / OIL-BASED PAINT
  • PESTICIDES
  • POOL CHEMICALS
  • SOLVENTS
EMPTY CONTAINERS: Empty containers can go into the trash or be recycled.

Transportation Requirements: 

Leave products in the existing container, if possible. Make sure lids are on tight so containers will not leak. Transport containers in the trunk or in the back of the vehicle away from passengers and pets. Do not transport over 15 gallons or 125 pounds at one time. Containers used for transport must be no larger than a 5-gallon bucket. Please tape ends of household batteries.

PLEASE NOTE: Five (5) televisions or computer monitors (CRT) per car will be accepted, in addition to household hazardous, electronic and universal waste.  

Home-generated “sharps” including syringes and lancets will be collected during this event. Please transport in closed rigid containers.

The workshop is complimentary and open to the public!

Come by and learn how to keep organics out of the landfill by shopping smart, storing food properly, and composting your scraps. We will also cover water conservation topics, such as ocean-friendly gardens and laundry-to-landscape systems. Join us for this fun, informative workshop and participate in one of the hands-on activities including a ‘make and take’ project and an eco-friendly kids’ craft.

In addition, attendees can bring in gently used items you were planning to donate and participate in the Swap ‘n’ Shop! Participants can exchange or donate those items giving them a second life and keeping them out of the landfill. Seaside Sustainability: Ditching Disposables

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Carlsbad once again to bring you Seaside Sustainability: Ditching Disposables on Wednesday, November 28th from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the State Street Farmers Market in Carlsbad Village located on State Street between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue! We are excited to help spread the word about sustainable practices and make it easier for residents to implement these actions in their everyday lives.

 

ILACSD will be talking with community members about minimizing their consumption of single-use plastics, reducing food waste, and building sustainable habits. Stop by our booth to pick up a FREE set of bamboo utensils or a stainless steel straw! Put your knowledge into action by utilizing your new reusable utensils while enjoying a bite to eat from one of the Farmers Market vendors!

Jacumba Tire Collection

CalRecycle and the County of San Diego Department of Public Works are hosting a FREE Tire Collection Event. Bring passenger vehicle tires to properly dispose of at this collection day! This free service for all residents living in unincorporated parts of the county will be offered from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Jacumba Library Parking Lot located at 44605 Old Hwy 80, Jacumba Hot Springs, CA 91934.

Tire Requirements:

  • Passenger vehicle tires only.
  • No tires from businesses.
  • Tires must be reasonably clean of dirt.
  • Only 9 tires per vehicle.
  • A limited number of tires with rims will be accepted.
  • Call 1-877-713-2784 to request pre-approval for tires with rims and loads of more than 9 tires.

Join ILACSD as we team up with the City of Carlsbad to bring you Seaside Sustainability: Ditching Disposables on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM! We are excited to help spread the word about sustainable practices and make it easier for residents to implement these actions in their everyday lives.

At three locations inside The Forum Carlsbad, ILACSD will be talking with community members about minimizing their consumption of single-use plastics, reducing food waste, and building sustainable habits. Stop by one of our three booths to pick up a FREE set of bamboo utensils or a stainless steel straw! If you get hungry while shopping, enjoy a bite to eat at one of the numerous cafes or restaurant throughout the Forum, and put your knowledge into action by utilizing your new reusable utensils!
