Have Old Tax Files That Need to be Disposed of?
If you’ve just finished filing your latest tax return and are wondering how to safely dispose of old tax files, the City of San Diego’s free Tax Files Recycling Event is for you! City of San Diego residents can drop off documents in secured bins at the Miramar Recycling Center, and they will be shredded and recycled.
Dates: April 16 to 23, 2026
Hours: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed Sunday)
Location: Miramar Recycling Center (5165 Convoy St., San Diego, CA 92111)
Limit: Participants are limited to one banker’s box of files. A banker’s box is approximately 10 inches high, 15 inches wide and 25 inches deep.
Paper files, folders and envelopes are accepted. Please remove all plastic covers, binders, electronic media or hazardous materials.
This free service is for City of San Diego residents only. Businesses can find recycling services by going to WasteFreeSD.org and searching for “Paper Shredding Services.”
