REPORTS TO: Volunteer Programs Manager

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Non-Exempt

RATE: $20.00- $23.00 per hour (depending on experience) and mileage reimbursement (at current CA
reimbursement rate)

SCHEDULE: 40 hours a week. Expected to work 2+ Saturday events per month (8 hour shift on
Saturday). Saturday time will be issued as comp time and will not qualify for overtime pay.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Volunteer Program Coordinator will support the Community Engagement
Department by leading the organization’s robust volunteer programs both externally and internally.
This role will steward, manage, and foster volunteer events and grow partnerships throughout San
Diego County. The role will coordinate logistics for the organization’s weekly cleanup events and
self-led cleanup programs from start to finish. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will lead and
manage the following community programs: various community cleanup events (65+ annually),
Adopt-A-Beach, Independent Cleanups, general volunteer inquiries, and a new organizational-wide
Volunteer Program. This position will coordinate, participate and lead hands-on cleanup events
around San Diego County, and engage and support over 15,000 volunteers annually as they remove over
100,000 pounds of litter and debris from the environment. The position will emphasize volunteer
recognition, access, growth, and involvement in each of San Diego County’s diverse communities.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Coordinate and lead all aspects of ILACSD’s community volunteer events with 20-200+ participants
at each event
• Manage the Adopt-A-Beach and Independent cleanup volunteer programs, including overseeing
program goals, volunteer correspondence and recruitment, supply preparation, purchases, and
inventory, program evaluation, and reporting
• Support the strategic growth, maintenance, and management of the organization’s new Pro
Volunteer Program
• Correspond with volunteers to encourage participation with I Love A Clean San Diego’s programs
and events
• Build relationships with partners in different communities around San Diego County
• Maintain and manage data in the volunteer management database (Samaritan) and affiliate portals
• Utilize the department’s volunteer and relationship management systems for respective programs
• Track and utilize metrics and write reports for respective grants, programs, and contracts
within given deadlines
• Support the Volunteer Program Manager to manage and complete department specific contracts &
tasks
• Oversee the purchase, inventory, storage and distribution of volunteer supplies, including
training and supervision of support staff at events
• Work with the Marketing department to promote programs, including collateral (creation of
flyers, blurbs, Facebook events, etc.) and provide program content for I Love A Clean San Diego’s
website
• Foster positive relationships with community groups, elected officials, and other parties who
can assist I Love A Clean San Diego in fulfilling its mission

• Professional and accurate representation of I Love A Clean San Diego

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
• Manage and oversee execution of 65+ community cleanup events per year across San Diego
County
• Maintain clear notes and documentation across the programs and reports
• Increase and grow community engagement in and attendance at cleanups
• Foster and grow I Love A Clean San Diego’s core volunteers across all programs
• Build, create, and maintain a positive experience for all I Love A Clean San Diego event
participants
• Successfully build partnerships and create positive long-standing relationships with community
groups

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work weekend events
• Flexible daily start and end times dependent on event schedule
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google Drive, Slack, Zoom
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
• Must be able to lift 30-50 LBS
• Requires sitting, standing, walking long distances at cleanups and events
• Reliable transportation
• Located in San Diego County
• Ability to pass background check prior to employment
• Ability to interact with diverse groups of people

• Knowledge of San Diego County and its environmental challenges
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Previous volunteer coordination preferred
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Highly motivated self-starter with a proactive approach
• Strong attention to details
• Project management and event planning experience
• Knowledge and interest in environmental issues, storm water pollution prevention, waste
diversion, and zero waste lifestyles

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
• Full-time, non-exempt
• $20 – $23 per hour, depending on experience
• Mileage reimbursement at current CA reimbursement rate
