REPORTS TO: Volunteer Programs Manager
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Non-Exempt
RATE: $20.00- $23.00 per hour (depending on experience) and mileage reimbursement (at current CA reimbursement rate)
SCHEDULE: 40 hours a week. Expected to work 2+ Saturday events per month (8 hour shift on Saturday).
Saturday time will be issued as comp time and will not qualify for overtime pay.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Community Engagement and Events Coordinator will play a key role in supporting I Love A Clean San Diego’s efforts to engage the community in environmental conservation and low-waste initiatives. This position is responsible for coordinating, managing and leading both public and private cleanup events across San Diego County, with a strong focus on building and maintaining partnerships with corporate groups and community organizations. The Coordinator will oversee ILACSD’s Corporate CleanBuilding program, seasonal litter cleanups, and volunteer appreciation events. Additionally, this role will provide support in volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all participants. This position involves both administrative and hands-on responsibilities, requiring the ability to work collaborative with diverse stakeholders while effectively managing event logistics and volunteer data.
Areas of Responsibility:
Corporate and Community Partnership Event Coordination: 40%
• Manage, promote, and expand the organization’s Corporate CleanBuilding program, including recruitment of corporate groups, proposal writing, and event management
• Cultivate and strengthen relationships with partners across San Diego County to support and grow event participation
• Collaborate with the Marketing department to promote programs to develop promotional materials such as flyers, social media posts, press releases, and website content to increase program visibility
Event Leadership and Cleanup Support : 25%
• Organize, coordinate and lead seasonal cleanup series, such as the post-Holiday cleanups along Mission Bay, ensuring smooth execution and participant engagement
• Manage the inventory, storage and distribution of volunteer supplies, including training and supervising support staff during events
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with community groups, elected officials, and other key stakeholders to enhance event success and community impact
Volunteer Recruitment and Support: 20%
• Plan and implement volunteer appreciation events and initiatives to foster community among volunteers and encourage continued participation
• Engage with volunteers through regular communication, providing information and encouragement to support their involvement in I Love A Clean San Diego’s programs and events
• Maintain and manage data in the volunteer management database (Samaritan) and affiliate portals
Administrative and Program Support: 15%
• Utilize volunteer and relationship management systems to track program metrics, generate reports, and meet grant and contract deadlines
• Assist the Volunteer Programs Manager and Community Engagement Department with tasks and other administrative duties as needed
• Represent I Love A Clean San Diego professionally and accurately in all interactions
• Other duties as assigned

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
• Successfully manage and execution of over 30 private Corporate cleanup events annually, delivering high-quality experiences for corporate partners
• Organize and lead seasonal cleanup events, securing strong partnerships and consistently drawing 200+ attendees per event
• Maintain clear and detailed documentation for all programs, ensuring accurate reporting and continuous program improvement
• Develop and implement effective volunteer appreciation and incentive programs that strengthen volunteer engagement and connection to the organization
• Create and maintain a welcoming and positive atmosphere for all event participants, ensuring a memorable and impactful experience
• Build and sustain long-term partnerships with community and corporate groups, fostering collaboration and support for I Love A Clean San Diego’s mission
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work weekend events
• Flexible daily start and end times dependent on event schedule
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Google Drive, Slack, Zoom preferred
• Must be able to lift 40-50 LBS
• Requires sitting, standing, walking long distances at cleanups and events
• Reliable transportation
• Located in San Diego County
• Ability to pass background check prior to employment
• Ability to interact with diverse groups of people
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Highly motivated; proactive self-starter
• Driven to streamline and grow systems
• Project management and event planning experience
• Effective written and spoken communication skills for diverse audiences
• Ability to troubleshoot event challenges efficiently, confidently and independently
• Ability to work well with subordinates, peers, supervisors, partners, and external stakeholders
• Comfortable presenting in front of large groups
• Knowledge of San Diego County and its environmental challenges
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Strong attention to details
• Knowledge and interest in environmental issues, storm water pollution prevention, waste diversion, and zero waste lifestyles
• Positive and dynamic interpersonal skills
• Marketing and/or fundraising background (bonus)
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
• Full-time, non-exempt
• $20 – $23 per hour, depending on experience
• Mileage reimbursement at current CA reimbursement rate
